Borax as fertilizer
Boron is an important trace element for plant nutrition and is added to some artificial fertilizers. If it is missing, damage to plant tissue will result. Heart and dry rot, yellowish leaves, brown-yellow spots in the foliage, and stunting are the result. In addition, flowering is reduced and, accordingly, so is the fruit harvest.
Strictly speaking, it is the calcium deficiency that affects the plants. But boron decisively regulates the calcium balance in plants. In the case of such a deficiency, deformation of the fruit is the result.
Negative changes are also visible in vegetables. For example, in potatoes and beets, which become glassy and rotten, or cauliflower, which quickly turns brown.
The minimum content of the trace element should be 0.8- 1.0 mg per kg of soil. If the soil is deficient in this trace element, you can fertilize with borax. But be careful not to overfertilize, so be sure to follow the dosage below.
Dosage for fertilizing with borax
Vegetables: 20 - 100g of borax per 100m2 of soil area, it is better to distribute small dosage annually in spring.
Fruit trees: 5 - 10g dissolved in 10l of water, water the root area evenly.
Especially plums, prunes, peaches and apricots transform boron available for humans in their fruits.
