CDS Cucumber jar method set "mychem.ch-Art"
✔️ CDS (chlorine dioxide solution) yourself - whenever you need it.
✔️ With all important components included in the set.
✔️ Includes step-by-step instructions.
Why this kit?
There are many inaccurate instructions for the so-called pickle jar method circulating on the internet - often untested and with incorrect results.
We have tested various approaches and found:
- Instead of the promised 0.3% concentration, the result was only 0.07% (approx. ¼ of the target strength).
- The pH value was approx. 7.
- Important instructions for the disposal of residual chemicals were completely missing.
With our kit and the enclosed mychem.ch instructions, you receive a safe, tried and tested method for producing CDS with the correct concentration.
- 0,5 L clear glass jar with markings at 250 ml
- 40 ml shot glass
- 100 ml sodium chlorite 24-26%
- 100 ml hydrochloric acid 4%
- 5 ml measuring beaker
- 4 replacement sealing rings for the pickle jar*
- 50 CDS-Measuring sticks
- HDPE funnel
- 100 ml amber glass bottle with dropper insert
- 250 ml amber glass bottle with screw cap
- 100 g ascorbic acid
- Instructions on paper for preparing 0,3% CDS
*Note: No sealing ring is completely resistant to chlorine dioxide - therefore check the stability regularly.
1. Fill water up to the mark (250 ml) in the swing-top jar.
2. Add reagents to the shot glass and place in the swing-top jar.
3. Seal the jar airtight and store in a dark place at room temperature for 24 hours.
4. Repeat the process 5 times until 0.3% CDS is reached.
5. Neutralize the residual solution in the shot glass with ascorbic acid and dispose of it.
👉 The result: approx. 0.32% CDS - but with a slightly acidic pH value (~5).
⚠️ Important note:
Chlorine dioxide gas is produced during the reaction. Please always work in well-ventilated rooms and do not inhale the gas!
The pickle jar method works - but has disadvantages (acidic pH value, possible by-products due to spray mist, limited seal ring durability).
For maximum purity, we recommend our high-purity CDS products.
